Our Aim
Our aim is to promote interest in equestrian sports, promote good fellowship among those interested in equestrian sports and to educate, train, coach and encourage members. Our club provides instruction and competition opportunities in the equestrian sports covered by the HRCAV in a friendly social environment. Members of our club are expected to abide by the rules as set by the HRCAV and be an active member, participating in club activities, rallies and working bees.

Prospective members are more than welcome to attend a rally or activity to meet our members and observe how we operate but you will not be permitted to bring your horse.

Whittlesea Adult Riders are a friendly, supportive club that welcome new members. Our membership is capped at 60 and there is usually a small waiting list. If you wish to join Whittlesea Adult Riders, please complete an Intention to Join form and email the completed form to [email protected]

- Full membership entitles you to attend our monthly instructional rallies free of charge and participate in 2x lessons. Activities other than our monthly weekend rally are also available and are usually 'self funding' and involve a small fee.
- A limited number of Pay As You Ride (PAYR) memberships are available upon application. PAYR members pay $35.00 for each rally they attend.
- Non-Riding/Club Supporter membership entitles you to attend any club activities without horse.
- All members receive a monthly Club newsletter and the HRCAV monthly magazine (Chaff Chat)
- Whittlesea Adult Riders members are required to join the HRCAV. The yearly HRCAV membership fee and insurance of $170.00 is in addition to your Club membership and is to be paid to the Club when you join. If you are already a financial member of the HRCAV through another Club, you are not required to pay this fee again.
- All fees quoted are valid for the 2023/24 year which commences on 1st November 2023.

WHAT SORT OF ACTIVITIES DO YOU HOLD?
Regular rallies are held providing instruction from qualified coaches in Dressage, Show Jumping, Poles/Grid and Cross Country. Other activities include open and internal competitions in all the HRCAV disciplines, training clinics with specialist instructors, trail rides and Three Phase Equitation. We also hold various social functions and fundraisers throughout the year.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU HOLD RALLIES?
We hold our main instructional rally on the third Saturday of the month. The first weekend of the month is reserved for additional activities and clinics. We also hold mid-week clinics (self funded) once per month for dressage and show jumping.
WHERE DO YOU MEET?
Our club grounds are located at the rear of the Whittlesea Agricultural Showgrounds. Entry via Showgrounds Rd, WHITTLESEA (Ref. 246 J8). Please note that horses must be floated/trucked into the grounds.
WHAT AGE DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO JOIN?
To join Whittlesea Adult Riders you must be 18 or over. Persons ages 17 years may apply to join only if their parent or guardian are current members of the club.
WHO ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS?
We are lucky to have several very popular instructors whose experience, ability and friendly attitudes are an asset to our club. We use a number of instructors on a regular basis and also bring in guest instructors from further afield several times per year. Regular Instructors include: Tanja van Bokhoven, Brya Law, Anne Hall, Russell Johnson, Murray Lamperd, Tori Mitton.
HOW WELL DO I HAVE TO RIDE?
We encourage all levels to join. The HRCAV network is ideal for beginners or nervous riders. The club is a wonderful base for support and encouragement as well as providing the basic foundations in all HRCAV equestrian disciplines. More experienced riders will also enjoy Adult Riders. The HRCAV offers numerous competitions every weekend of the year in a range of disciplines with levels going up to the equivalent of EA Medium level dressage and Novice level for Eventing.

Our club is a member with the Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria. The HRCAV has approximately 244 clubs around Victoria and over the border into NSW and SA and over 6,000 active individuals. HRCAV membership has many benefits including insurance cover, opportunities to meet riders from other areas and access to fair competition through the assessment system.
HOW DOES THE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM WORK?
Members who wish to compete at HRCAV events must be graded by an accredited HRCAV Level Assessor. There are levels to cater for all standards from beginners to experienced riders. Club members Sally Mizzi, Diana Earp and Lorraine Hall are qualified Level Assessors. Member's assessments for various disciplines are recorded on their performance cards, which must be produced at HRCAV events (along with their Membership card). Rider/horse combinations can be upgraded as they improve, or can progress through the levels by accumulating a set number of points from wins/places at official events.
DO YOU HAVE A UNIFORM?
Yes. While you are not required to wear a uniform at club rallies or activities, it is compulsory to be in the correct uniform if you are competing at official HRCAV events. Our uniform consists of either;

- White polo shirt with green logo over breast or green polo shirt with gold logo over breast with or without bottle green jumper with gold logo on breast or
- A traditional coloured shirt (white, cream, ivory, champagne, lemon, light gold or light green shirt) with predominantly bottle green tie, or traditional coloured shirt (as stated above) with ratcatcher or stock, with or without bottle green fitted vest with gold logo on breast or V necked woollen jumper with gold logo on breast and
- White, beige, banana, ivory, butter or light gold jodhpurs or breeches; and
- Long black or brown riding boots or black or brown boots with leather gaiters and ASA approved helmet; and
- Bottle green saddle blanket with gold logo with or without gold trim or white saddle blanket with or without green logo or sheepskin numnah/half numnah
CLUB RULES
These guidelines were introduced to ensure the safety and enjoyment of not only our members but also our guests, horses, children and dogs:
- Members are required to assist at minimum of two club held events and a rally day each HRCAV year. A roster is set out each year.
- HRCAV rules for saddlery apply at all club activities. Exemptions may be permitted upon request to the Committee prior to riding.
- Work boots, hoof boots and running martingales are permitted in all disciplines.
- No smoking on horseback
- ASA approved helmet and riding boots must be worn at all times whilst mounted
- Yards to be cleaned after use and chains put back up.
- Poo to always be picked up off arena. If on grass poo to be spread out.
- Please park floats and vehicles a minimum of 10-15 meters away from the arena’s edge
- Lunging to be conducted on grass areas away from the sand arena to avoid disturbance to riders. Exemption: If there are no riders on the sand, then you may use the sand however once someone starts riding then you must move away onto grassed area
- Children to remain supervised and not to be within approx 10 meters of arena unless in the company of an adult
- Dogs to remain on leashes at all times. If your dog is loose or causes a disturbance you may be asked to leave him/her at home in the future
